ECO FRIENDLY – and the facts behind it

Gram Commercial's objective is to be, at all times, the preferred and leading brand within energy-saving, environmentally friendly refrigerator and freezer products. This is part of our expressed corporate mission.

With the ECO FRIENDLY logo, we want to emphasise the environmental benefits of Gram products.

HFC-free products

The lab-produced chemical substance HFC, which is also a potent greenhouse gas, is the industry standard in the great majority of the professional products available on the market today. HFC, or R134a and R404A as it is also known, is not only used in the products' refrigeration systems but also in their insulation. Since 2002, Gram has swum against the tide, introducing standard refrigerators and freezers based on natural gas instead of greenhouse gas. Such Gram products are thus completely free of HFC, both in their insulation and refrigeration systems, thereby protecting our common environment from the harmful effects of global warming.

Energy efficiency

The energy efficiency of refrigerators and freezers is a crucial factor not only for the global environment but also for the local work environment in professional kitchens. For it's a fact that the electricity used by refrigerators or freezers generates heat which is given off to the surrounding environment. So the lower their energy consumption, the less heat the cabinets will create. And, as anyone who has worked in a professional kitchen will tell you, this is a major benefit in everyday life.

Gram Commercial continues on an ongoing basis to put considerable effort into improving the energy efficiency of its products – without compromising their refrigeration capacity in any way, mind you. This is documented for instance on the highly regarded British Energy Technology List (ETL), which catalogues the refrigerators and freezers for professional kitchens which live up to minimum requirements for energy efficiency. There are more than thirty Gram products on the list and they stand out among the most energy efficient.

"ECO-design", a mandatory EU marking scheme, is expected to come into force on 1 July 2016. The scheme, which is currently being drawn up by the EU Commission, will utilise the well-known letter ratings A to G, and will thus with a single stroke make it easy to compare the various makes and to choose energy-efficient products.

Already now, our SUPERIOR PLUS 72 refrigerator lives up to the requirements of energy class A, the best of them all.

Environmental certification
As an ISO 14001 certified company we are proud to meet the environmental management requirements of this exacting and stringent standard. This long standing and  internationally recognised accreditation  is designed to manage, monitor and reduce a manufacturers operational burden on the environment. This demonstrates the commitment of Gram to achieve these high standards through the application of forward thinking and innovative business practices.
